Do you think different adverse experiences will affect children. Theories inform policy, practice with children (i. e. infant care, education, health care, etc. ) and direct research. Theories are basic tools used to study, understand, and structure information about children"s behavior and their worlds. Theories can help us disrupt assumptions or ideas we take for granted because of the culture we grow up in. Think about paradigm shifts in theories about children (i. e. physical punishment, children should be seen but not heard , children do not feel pain, etc. ) Without research and theory about children we would not change the ways we think about and approach raising children. With the enlightenment there was an increase emphasis on the laws of nature in attempting to understand how social world worlds.
