Training evaluation is assessing the value and worthiness of training programs to employees and organization. Political barrier to training evaluation: evaluations are conducted when there is pressure from management to do so, evaluation can be threatening (to trainers) Some studies conclude that part of program or the entire program is not effective. Trainers fear it will reflect bad on there part: ethical concerns: belief that evaluations should be externally conducted. This is to avoid trainers from not manipulating evaluations on ethically grounds. Fundamental purpose of evaluation: formative evaluation: provide data on various parts of the training program design/delivery (relevance of training content, summative evaluation: provide data about the worthiness or effectiveness of a training program (cost benefit analyses) 1. affective reaction: did the trainees like or dislike the training program: utility reactions: how useful was the training program. Learning: trainee acquisition of the program (what did they gain) Behaviour: on the job behaviour (is the trainee using the acquired skills)
