ADMS 3410 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Social Cognitive Theory, Observational Learning, Virtual Reality
Document Summary
Week 6 training and development methods #2: off-the-job training & technology. Off-the-job training methods can be conducted in-house and/or outside the organization by either the organization itself or an third party. Instructional methods refer to the techniques used to convey the training content within a training program, such as lectures, discussions, or role-plays: lecture: efficient way of providing large amount of information to an audience. The biggest downside is that is not very participatory. The flow is unilateral, thus it should be provided with other methods such as tutorials. It is not as effective for the development of skills or for changing attitudes: discussion allows two-way communication between the trainer and trainees as well as among trainees. Discussions facilitate the exchange of ideas and are good ways to develop critical thinking skills as well as social and interpersonal skills. The primary use is to encourage open discussion and analysis of problems and events.
