There are many ranges of livelihood strategies. Notion of progress does not adequately explain economic disparities in the world economy (gap b/w rich and poor) Poverty and inequalities are not natural phenomena, or due to, say, poor individual choices, but have been strongly influenced by historical relationships between the developed and developing worlds. Long history of colonialism, trade, and imperialism strongly shaped economic inequalities, poverty and various forms of vulnerabilities prevalent in certain nations and among certain communities.
