Acknowledge the differences of societies to the west. Those beliefs and practices relating to disease which are the products of. Indigenous cultural development and are not explicitly derived from the conceptual framework of modern medicine (**we will expand on this definition in future lectures**). Talking about all those beliefs and practices in terms of how they addressed and dealt with disease- the cultural rootedness of these practices. They are something totally separate from how we study disease phenomenon in the west. Healing models of the other are related with the notion of reflecting on western medicine itself! Sick because you have upset a supernatural being, not respected one"s ancestor (relationship between the living and the dead- leaving food on ones" grave for their soul, saying prayers), or failed to fulfill those obligations to your ancestors. Evil spirit taking over ones" body, or a human being able to control or manipulate entities.
