A social science that studies culture (how groups of people live and make sense of the world around them) The most important part of research is fieldwork. Participant-observation is the most important part of fieldwork. Rathe then judging beliefs or behaviours that are different from your own, a better project is to understand them on their own terms. We live in an inequitable world, but this is nit natural. Late 1400"s people had to spend time protecting their area of community. People continue to fight their space in their community, they are defending their area in which they have made their home. Rousseau- humans are peaceful by nature and society makes them the way they are. Forced change in which one culture, society, or nation dominates another. Nortu sentinel island- small scale hunter gatherer society. Not connected to a global connection or change. Chris columbus- saw them as sub-human and meant to be exploited.
