Sex, gender and popular culture - winter semester. The way we understand gender, race and sexuality are contingent on the cultural context in which it is being analyzed. Cultural understandings of gender, race and sexuality communicate a meaning of what these things are. They form a type of definition or expectations about these things. Media and what is portrayed in the media. Feminist cultural production: jokes, performance art ect. The political goals of a movement have profound effects on the culture of the people affected by that movement. Some media can be reclaimed, reframed or reformed in order to denote a completely new meaning to the original source. Learning by experience and using our senses to gain knowledge. Becoming conscious of your body (such as breathing, body movements) Abstract, analytical readings are often more accepted in the academic community. Objectivity: looking at something and analyzing it without incorporating any of your subjectivity (your opinions, the way you see things ect)
