Gundohinus codex- 754: perhaps a frankish manuscript, hair looks like a badly fitted toupee, no modelling with shadow, gorilla-like arm proportions, low quality, entirely non linear, evangelists are poorly represented. Godescalc gospels- 781-783: school of charlemagne, god is seated on a throne with long hair and a crucifix halo giving blessing, somewhat linear, visible feet, highlights and shadows on the face, aachen court school of constantine. Soissons gospels, st. mark- 827: sharp lines, faux marble painting, gold, vibrant, staccato, icicle like highlights, linear, but not clean, not nearly as luxurious looking. Lorsch gospels: marble columns, different colours, variety of colours emanated superiority. Trier, constantine"s basilica to be painted: early 4th century basilica, fresco, not tempera, statue, grandeur of the emperor depicted in equestrian statue, bronze statues. Roman triumphal arches: taken as the model for the arch of einhard- charlemagne"s biography, made of plaster and coated in silver gild, appropriation.
