Buffers, amino acids and protein structure midterm 1. Expected to know everything kubinski talks about and nothing that"s in the text but not mentioned in class. Biochemistry: chemical description of molecules in biology, tends to focus more on proteins and other chemicals involved in metabolism; like vitamins, study of proteins and metabolic chemicals. Molecular biology: manipulation/engineering of dna, genetics, rna, etc , first section material should be known for second section. Cell biology: bigger way of looking at thing, by looking at whole cell, functions that occur within a cell, usually has to deal with organelles. The nucleus and mitochondria: also how a cell grows, or functions in the context of a tissue. Biol2020 revolves around the structure/function relationship: we will look at structure of proteins, dna and how it carries out its function. Biochemistry has been studied for 100+ years, and we have found that at the very fundamental level organisms are remarkably uniform: core biochemical processes are uniform.
