Document Summary

Bio 1001 macroevolution continued march 8. Errors not only happen when dna duplicates itself but it also happens during crossing over. Dna replication does not get better with more errors. Duplications ( mutations ) can be bad and can be good (sometimes) Therefore: new genes can enter the population and be acted upon by evolution. Is the major source of new genes being introduced. Can happen during replication or unequal crossing over during meiosis 1: misaligned and chromo homologous results in being deleted while the other one has two copies. Sometimes having more than one copies can sometimes be bad because of genetic imbalance. Evidence that new genes come from duplication is because of gene families. Gene family genes similar to each other in structure and function. Gains and losses in number of copies of genes is found in some species. Adaptive radiation it"s when one species gives rise to many other species rapidly: difference due to adaptation.
