Warming , canada does not take any actions to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions (ghg) produced from the oil sands in northern alberta. In 2002, canada signed the kyoto agreement committing to reduce ghg emissions (mcquaig 2005). In contrast to what authorities have claimed, ottawa and the government of alberta greatly support the oil industry. They want to triple the production to 3 million barrels a day seeing that the oil prices have continued to increase (mcquaig 2005). The oil sand industry mentioned they would help reduce ghg however, this would take decades considering that alberta"s reserve is similar in size to saudi. Arabia"s reserve yet not as easily accessible (mcquaig 2005). Canada, the oil industry in alberta will soon be exporting most of its oil to the united states.
