BIOL 2040 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, Electric Field, Electrophoresis
Document Summary
Genetics: what is determined in inheritance and what is involved. Variation, and why some things are present in some genes pertaining to one family and not to others. Discusses resistance to various diseases: early on - how does genetics and inheritance work, also involved in genetic analysis, genetic analysis- using the tools or methods of genetics to understand some systems or development. Start with a trait of interest- what are the genes or traits involved in wing development. Start with a trait or system of interest. Look for variations in that population. look to see if there are genes involved in determining wing colour or size etc. Or can generate genes, blast with x-rays and mutagens and create genetic variation and then study imperative results involved: reverse genetics- used more recently since the whole genome can be sequenced. Look through the whole sequence and dna and look for things that are part of a gene like stop codon and promoters.
