Document Summary

When it comes to addictions many find it hard to pinpoint the root of the addiction and why people become dependent on substances such as cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. The bio-psycho-social (bps) model is an approach that states that biological, psychological and social factors all play a significant role when it comes to the behaviors and functioning of humans in relation to illnesses. Many people who study addictions argue that addictions are part of a biopsychosocial process. A biological cause of addiction emphasizes the significance of biological natures, and genetics. The theory suggests that genetic abnormality, and the brain cause human behavior. In regards to the biological perspective of addiction, everyone"s addiction should be viewed differently because each person has a different genetic make-up. For example, some people may truly enjoy the substance they are misusing which would result in the difficulty of resistance while others might simply not experience this trouble of resistance.
