Document Summary

Tentatively scheduled for thur feb 4th and thur mar 4th. Virus replication cycle dsdna virus same nucleic acid structure as cells easiest to follow split into 2 phases: early phase and late phase related to which genes are expressed. Entry and uncoating - covered in chapter 4: virus enters the cell, endocytosis only route a non-enveloped virus has to get into cell. But if enveloped virus, can enter by endocytosis or by membrane fusion. Early gene expression: because a dna virus it goes through same processes as cell, occurs from the input genomes (the infecting virus) Replication of viral genome: ns proteins will interact with input viral genome and replicate it into more copies, newly synthesized genomes called progeny genomes, progeny genomes start to accumulate. Assembly of virions: progeny genomes and structural proteins come together into virions which are called progeny virions (newly made virions) Take away: 2 stages - early stage and late stage involving gene expression.
