Document Summary

The conflict approach is an act that"s prohibited by people in positions of power to protect their own value and interests. Therefore, laws are passed by those who are in higher power, or the upper class. These people make decisions in order to maintain their privileged position. An employer may not want to pay wages to their employee, this may not be considered a crime simply because the person in higher power (employer) doesn"t believe it"s a crime. This is an example of how crimes committed vary among different social classes and within society. Statistics can be dangerous if we do not know how to examine them critically. Crime statistics may not always be accurate, some theories concerning crime may contain false facts, or facts based on ideology and other people"s perception. Sometimes even though there are numbers in statistics it doesn"t always make it true. Therefore, statistics can in fact be dangerous if they"re not examined critically.
