Crime as a social construction- what does it mean. Values, perceptions and beliefs defined by society. Social construct has an impact on everyone. Historical context is important- social construct can change. Intent why is it that they do what they do: the impact, int terms of policies. Canadian criminal activity has not increased in the last 10 years. Vast majority of crime in canada is property crime, changes in crime overall are driven by changes in property crime. Violent youth crimes have decreased roughly over the last ten years, 30 percent decrease. Most crimes of violent are perpetrated by individuals who are known to the victim, such as family or friends. Differs to how violent crimes are represented e. g creepers late at night etc. Much greater danger is by people that we know on a regular basis. Toronto is not the city with the most crime in canada, 29/35 on the list of the most violent crime.
