Document Summary

Caledonia dispute: the native indians and a contractor. This situation was handled badly by the provincial authorities. R. v. smoke: smoke with his friend broke into a house in the suburbs, the home owner and his sons arrived, a fight ensued, and the owner went into coma. Cops have about 3 seconds to make a decision on what to do since it takes that long to pull out a gun. Most police shootings are in close contact. Police are able to use one more level of force than the force they are dealing with. (the plus one rule) Racial profiling: this is an example of discretion based on personal bias: this is the discriminatory use of discretion.
