Herbert packer, two models of the criminal process, the limits of the criminal sanction. The more we learn about what the criminal justice system really is, the more we realize that it is less than what it should be: lack of adequate representation, coercion, violation of privacy . Quicker: the more people that can be handled and higher potential for anti- social conduct. The harder: smaller people handled given resources, and the more difficult it is to condemn someone: relationship between characteristic functioning of the process and the types of behaviour with which it can effectively deal. What is criminal law good for: assess if it is high-speed or low-speed method of social control and it"s effectiveness at handling particular antisocial behaviours, dynamism: potential for change. The kind of criminal process we have depends on our value choices we need a normative model(s) need more than one, but not more than two.
