Can begin as a broad topic, but will be particular. Ericson: there is more than 1 definition of order, but we are concerned with the sociological definition of order: social order: maintaining a degree of rationalization in society. ^-institutional makeup of society: modern society is made up of different institutions that combine to give society a degree of order and organization so that it can function in a relatively smooth way. Humans must be regulated, whereas others can regulate themselves. Another type of social regulation and control that achieves order is the way that geography achieves order through strategic placement and arrangement of space: lecture halls are structured as a panopticon. The organization of space also pertains to order. Architects paid great attention to the layout of the campus: police the campus in the event that radicalism arose at school. Cities are set up in a geographical order.
