I personally feel that this quote was a good representation of how vulnerable women are especially in the face of the media. The ability for women to be easily targeted based on their image is more prevalent due to the mass amount of exposure they have in mainstream media. Any boy can temporarily become a fag in a given social space or interaction. This does not mean that those boys who identify as or are perceived to be homosexual are not subject to intense harassment. But becoming a fag has as much to do with failing at the masculine tasks of competence, heterosexual prowess and strength or an anyway revealing weakness or femininity, as it does with a sexual identity. (pasco, 2005, p 330) I believe this is true in regard to the types of examples you hear in today"s society surrounding that term.
