Document Summary
Importance of informed consent: being transparent from the begging, take preventative measures to ensure everyone is on same page. Informed consent is the ground work for ensuring patients trust in medical practices: trust is important to ensure people seek & comply with medical advice & participate in medical research. If person lacks capacity due to their lack of knowledge then a decision can be taken for them that"s in their best interest, although no one can consent to medical treatments on behalf of an adult lacking capacity. Its acceptable for a person with capacity to make a decision that is not in their best interest, however if the person doesn"t have capacity, then decisions are made in their best interest. For informed consent to be valid: given voluntarily, given by individual who has capacity, given by individual who has been fully informed about issues. For children under, consent is given by parents.
