Siblings: third child of 7 girls & 4 boys. *age 7: read pilgrims progress (reads precociously) Age 12: private school in new richmond. *1845 age 13: rugby college -> hated it, bullied, but academically successful. *1851 age 19: oxford university, christ church college & mother dies brain in ammation. 1852 age 20: receives honours & fellowship (gifted academic) Lectureship: as mathematician - good money but stupid pupils. Aspirations: writer - sent poetry&stories to magazines. 1854-1856 (22-24): rst publication in whitby gazette & oxford critic (small magazines) *1856 age 24: rst poem- solitude, romantic poem in journal - train (1st use of name l. c) Victorian era children: when things started being directed to children (alice, frozen, etc. ) Photography: took pictures of waifs/orphans on street - child poverty documentation.
