Document Summary
The lion, the witch and the wardrobe by c. s. Lewis is a strong christian after previously being an atheist (apparent in the novel) There is a movement to tone down religious aspect within children"s literature. A writer that obverts religion too much, will not be published. Anthromorphism - giving animals human qualities (thinking/speaking) Hybrid text adventure, fantasy and faith. Works the same way that faith does. Moral tales there is no time for any magical elements. Why does a woman embody evil? (the witch) The absence of a parent the war separates the children from them. Allegorical quality to the text two levels of meaning (literal, highly visible element vs. hidden in the shadows; symbolism) You can see aslan as a kind, sometimes frightening figure but if you are familiar with christian background/knowledge of christianity, you will see the allegorical layer of the story. Clear distinction between a child and adult audience.
