Document Summary
Soylan green and omega man based off of sci-fi novels. Must make an ethical moral decision - side with good guys or bad guys. Original script was written by rod serling: also wrote twilight zone and night gallery, much of material drawn from serling"s own experience he was a loner, didn"t follow orders, was viewed as a screw-up had ptsd. Serling had liberal views on race relations (early 1960"s) and commented on gender relations. A lot of dark humor in the film - added by michael wilson infamous moment: monkey judges replicate hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil . Blake edwards considered to direct planet of the apes. 1968 version directed by franklin j schaffner. The makeup was considered pioneering - one of the first to use prosthetic makeup (designed by jon chambers - film argo based on his story) Actors stayed in character the entire production, even segregating themselves based on species.
