The technological developments caught up for news reports to be filming everything. By the 1960s majority of the public was against american government, because no one understood why they were involved in this war. Before wwii, vietnam was a french colony from 1900th century to 1940. Invaded by japan in 1940 joint french japanese occupation. 1945: vietnam wins its liberation from japanese occupation. 1945- 1954: french military attempts to re-colonize vietnam- us finances this, because they fear the country being ruled by a communist. 1954; divided into 2: north was lead by the communists, south was a pro-western society which the us helped them. Elections scheduled for 1956 to determine fate of vietnam. Us opposes election because it would probably lead to communist victors. Us supports a series of unpopular but pro-us leaders in the south. Us sends military advisors to help south vietnam in the late 1950s and early 60s.
