These ideologies continue to be used until this day, although perhaps more sophisticated these days. Although canada was not a slave-based economy such as the us, it still kept and used slaves. This by no means is some romantic situation it almost always involves violence, captivity, and coercion. In the earliest part of colonial power in canada, both african and indigenous people were enslaved. Many times slaves would live in the same houses as their masters, often baptized and given the family name.
