Women were more equal with men in aboriginal societies. Women were fundamentally not accepted as full fledged members of the public word. They were not recognized as full citizens in political and economic terms. They didn"t have the right to vote until the mid 1900s. This view of women shaped gender divisions in society and informed public policy. The development of a domestic ideology: used as a justification around the wage. Capital or business was recruiting wage labour in the latter part of the 19th century. As the industrial revolution unfolded, specific categories of worker were recruited. Women and children were ripe for exploitation because they couldn"t easily resist. They were brought into the workforce under these conditions. They were given the deskilled jobs that paid the least. Huge numbers of unskilled jobs were created in factories and women were the ideal workers. Well-understood that women were labeled as a cheap labour force within the context of industrialism.
