Z"s dad makes a living hauling goods and her mom takes in boarders to help out. Z did a lot of different jobs (domestic chores, candy factory, millinery job, another millinery job, selling women"s hats) industrialization created new types of paid employment for females. Industrialization changed canada from rural society based on small scale independent commodity production to urban one based on factory system. Transportation improved (railways, steam ships) resource industries (lumbering, mining, saw mills, flour mills, textile mills) developed. Early 20th century- 2nd industrial revolution extended upto second world war. Electricity (generated from rivers or waterfalls) emerged as key power source. Mehcanization increased, new industries (steel, automobile, pulp and paper, electrical appliances) 1891-1921 population of 2 most industrialized cities (toronto and montreal) tripled.
