Document Summary

Dance like a man talks about conventional masculinity. Both jairaj and ratna find themselves victims of that order. The play challenges the definition of what it means" to be man. There was jealousy between ratna and jairaj because due to amritlal"s planning, she herself succeeded as a dancer whereas jairaj was left behind. For amritlal, jairaj wasn"t a man because he dances, whereas for ratna he wasn"t a man because he couldn"t provide her a house to live in. Ratna and jairaj shared a complex and strange relationship which had a little bit of love, a little bit of hate, a little bit of concern, it had everything put together and was hard to explain. They know each other so well that its easy for them to find the perfect thing to say to even hurt each other the most.
