Agenda: what is colonialism, the british empire, the french empire, the german empire. The global expansion of european powers set the stage for, and significantly shaped the nature of, many conflicts of the 20th century. Trade cannot flourish without security, and that security may often be unattainable without the exhibition of physical force.
