Term that sasasanid law uses for endowment, is called pat ruvan. Give a donation to support poor to support believers. Some one with land, will set aside some money for the poor or the group. Give a part of your land, that generate wealth that can support the poor or religious groups. Most common: construction of fire temple, charity purposes (support orphans, give poor a meal) Really wide spread, it acted as a welfare for the society. It is identical to waqf under the islamic period. It was done due to religion and tax exempt. It is a way to secure your property. Waqf was a way to control land and not pay tax. It pre-date the sasanid and stay after the sasanian period. First jewish were in 722bce, were exiled to babylon. Early experience with iranian rule was very positive, cyrus allowed the jewish to be freed.
