Argument of black excellence: fantasies of those in power play out themselves. People of power will always win in sports arena: hockey is a white arena, white sport white people always win, threat blacks pose! Hockey is on ice, ice linked to nature and canadian landscape, we can only see white people on this landscape: politics of nation plays out in sports. Ex, africville urban spaces come into be being. Institutions come into being cemetery and church and then rolled over and built over it. Roseland theatre, the way that can be physically erased, history of coloured hockey team erased. View sports as institution which domination imposed but contested. Sports as platform to contest; context of canada not as explosive. Black sporting excellence as fragile and tenuous status. Effects of stigmatization and fall from grace.
