Japan has one of the highest population densities in the world- very crowded. Japan has the 3rd greatest gnp- gross national product. Japan is not permitted to have a military, but that is not true, they have a self- defense force and spend 2nd highest in their military force. Transition from food gathering/hunting gathering to food: due to the nature of the activities, they moved around often, as a result, most members of society became involved in farming, and then slowly settled. Industrial revolution: characterized by mechanical production and fueled by chemical means; Transition from food producing to manufacturing coal, gasoline, not muscle power: as societies move forward in time, they can support more and more people, as more and more jobs are created, more production comes into existence. One of the explanations of tokugawa"s collapse was due to the malthusian trap- a limited amount of land, and population will grow to a certain point where resources are exhausted.
