Socializa)on refers to the learning process whereby a human infant gradually acquires a cultural uency. We are governed by common sense ideas that do us a disservice. Family: kingship (we are all related tribally- either by blood, marriage in a par)cular household). It is a social group characterized by common residence, economic coopera)on and reproduc)on. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain a socially- approved sexual rela)onship and one or more children, own or adopted of the sexually cohabi)ng adults. Many func)ons performed by family that are necessary for reproduc)on of society. The tradi)onal family has changed over the years (blended, extended families). Can"t talk about family without talking about private property. The family as an ins)tu)on is based on patriarchy as dictated (the man"s voice is the loudest and most powerful). Process of division of labour (who does what, when and how).
