In the past, it was called the horatio alger myth. England writer who wrote dozens of inspirational stories about poor boys making good by working hard, scrimping and saving, and sometimes marrying the boss"s daughter. Only in america, the moral was relentlessly repeated, could poor boys aspire to anything and everything. Everyone knows the names of men who"ve made fortunes on their own-- John d. rockefeller and andrew carnegie in the day of the 19th century robber barons, Bill gates in the age of cyber capitalism.
