Needs analysis: a process to identify gaps or deficiencies in employee and organizational performance. A training need is a gap between current results and desired results. For orgs the goal of need analysis is to identify performance gaps and determine whether or not training intervention can help close the gaps. Performance gaps could be the result of many factors such as knowledge skills, inadequate resources, poor job design? no feedback and so on. Training could address some of these factors but not all of them. However a factor of need analysis can help orgs make an informed decision abuot how to close perfoamnce gaps. 4 step process: concern, important, consult stakeholder, collect information. Needs analysis information can be used to determine. Can also be used to write training objectives. The needs analysis result in a number of outcomes. Step 1 concern : something that causes managers to notice it. Ex) manager noticing employee being ruined to customer.
