Management development is a long-term (longitudinal) process. Manager"s work focus is mainly through other people therefore design techniques tend to be different e. g. job rotation. Managerial personalities (e. g. interpersonal skills) must be taken into account. Informational role: managers must monitor and extract information from the environment, disseminate information to others, act as a spokesperson/representative. Decisional role: managers must make decisions about people, goals, and the means to attain goals. In this capacity, they act as entrepreneur, resource allocator, negotiator, and trouble-shooter. Planning: defining the direction toward which the efforts of individuals (employees) are to be focused. Organizing: establishing systems that ensure that the efforts of individuals working on major tasks are efficiently and effectively coordinated and organized.
