The celebration of canada"s one hundred and fty years called for large celebration of reworks, posters and parties: however, when we discuss confederation we fail to even mention our ugly history. A whole nation has su ered and continues to su er in the shadows. In countless ways we have diminished their culture, religion, and most importantly their sense of pride. In an e ort to gain power and land, we purposely a ected them with disease, enslaved and slaughtered them: when we nally realized that there was no way to wipe out a nation, we whitewashed them in residential schools. It is important to note that the dehumanizing and abuse of rst nations is not an issue of the past.
