HUMA 1105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Zoophilia, Physical Attractiveness
Document Summary
A woman should eat quince (fruit similar to a pear) before going to bed with her new husband. After veiling the bride, a chaplet of asparagus should be placed on her head. Asparagus is used because it grows out of thorns, and symbolizes making the best of bad situations. This is also used so the new husband does not run away from her at the irst sign of annoyance or peevishness. It is said that those couples who don"t recuperate from early disagreements are those who give sour grapes to others before the clusters ripen . Women who get annoyed at their husbands are like those who submit to the sting of bees but abandon the sweet honeycomb . Newlyweds must bear disagreements (especially in the beginning) as they will get stronger as a couple with time ( the joints cannot be separated by ire and steel )
