Legal system portrayed as corrupt and inhuman. Presents of the law makes people feel guilty. The kids represent the furies, they have eyes of women: the girls want to torment k, because he is guilty. Justice is blind and fair: scales represent this, if guilty scales will tilt to the side with the sword to depict punishment and if innocent tilt the other way. K is hubristic law is inaccessible. Women outside of the halls of justice: free spirit, bohemian dancer. First examining magistrate: speaks in cryptic legal language, k looks in books and find pornography, system is working, but no one knows how it works feeds off peoples anxiety. Uncle carl: k"s uncle, the law works by shaming people into obeying it, no one wants to be implicated by the law. Leni: nurse and mistress, lives in the halls of justice, temptress, huld"s interpretation of women/lenny, she finds guilty men attractive , pretends to love k, seduces him.
