Cinema & the portrayal of women: the femme fatale. The phrase femme fatale literally translates into english as deadly woman, and embodies the notions that such women are both sexually aggressive and deadly, both passionate and dangerous, to men who encounter them. This danger may be either physical or emotional, or both. And while these women may or may not resort to murder, they entrap their victims in a web of sexual dominance which renders them powerless to resist, and leads them to their downfall. Femme fatale were dangerous ad deadly woman a stereotype that appeared early in film. A character who was sexually aggressive, physically dreaded but one who manipulated men passively and sexually into doing her bidding. Entrapped male victims into the web of helplessness through application of her charms. Men would be duped int acting for the woman who cannot act on her own.
