The idea of democracy came to be from the greeks- city of athens (classical. City states which then had colonies- two big ones were athens and sparta. They have real life settings but not sure if they are real scenarios for antigone. Trojan women were probably true, first verbally spoken then written down. Sparta most notable city state spilt into two ideas. Through all these periods war is very important. Alexander the great breaks the city states and makes it unified. The romans take over the empire after alex hereditary city-states is the oikio. Democratic rulers and forums- could only vote if citizen and male. Athens had large slave class but not based on race. Men"s space and women"s space- areas people could stay or belong. Women ruled by their fathers, brothers or husband- patriarchal. Three biggest gods are male- this was a conflict in those times and modern times. Head god= king or noble= husband, father or brother.
