Greek/Rome Mythology Lec 5 Iliad 3-4 Book 3 Hector and Paris are brothers. Line 167, Hector and Agamemnon are both chief leaders. No combat as Paris and Menelaus fight for Helen, no blood shed. Helen is summoned by the Goddess Iris, function of divine intervention to provide scene change in the book. Helen wonders where her brothers are, she doesn’t know they were killed Agamemnon prays to Zeus, Divine intervention, how is it that Menelaus can’t wound Paris? Aphrodite intervenes to protect Paris, he’s her favourite. Breaks strap and sends him to bedroom with Helen. Helen is frustrated, she compares her old courageous husband to Paris.
