Nationalism: possessing patriotic feelings for your country. Ex. willing to serve for ones country + a pride for ones. Movement favoured more autonomy in the british empire. Even imperialists had a large nationalist streak. 2nd nationalistic streak: in the 1920s after the war. Post war nationalism: presented our pride of our soldiers. Also includes writers and poets who made us feel proud of our villages: resurgence of nationalism, 1945-60: first stirrings, economic and cultural americanization. American investment was heavy in the automobile industry. There was a huge spike in investment in the 50s. Clarence howe was in favour of foreign investment. Gordon report was the first indication that american investment may have drawbacks. To protect our resources, ottawa should limit our foreign investment allowance. As an extension from the 20s, canadians spent much time reading american books/magazines. Rather than listening/watching to canadian material: canada: a cultural wasteland.
