Rationalism, logic, and beginning of science: raised these type of questions in a rational matter, stay away from religious answers, come up with ethical answers by logic, reason only, logic studies were not advanced between ancient greece & 19th century; only recently has it been advanced. Incase one needs to go to war, there is authority still at home: no power vacuum: hierarchal order, council of elders analyzed all children born, if there are any physical defects, the child is either thrown away, or tested to the elements, children were taken away after 7 years old (cid:224) starved, poor clothing, forced to steal food (if they were caught stealing food they would suffer harsh beatings), had to fight one another (survival rates law), graduate school by: sneak out without being caught by your superiors and kill a helot with bare arms and bring the body inside without being caught, homosexuality was encouraged: creating a stronger bond for war.
