HUMA 1875 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Papal Primacy, Investiture Controversy, Pope Leo I
Document Summary
Vv 79-80 papal primacy derived from petrine primacy . Pope leo i argues that the successor of peter is the bishop of rome and because he is the successor of rome he is responsible for the entire christian church. He argues that peter has received several special privileges and that no privilege has passed to others except through him. He also states that the power that was passed on to all of the apostles by jesus was initially entrusted to one person whom was peter. In the last passage he states that after his resurrection the lord exclaimed to peter feed my sheep in which. Peter continues to do even now by constantly praying for us to protect us from temptation. Personally i do find his arguments convincing because he was able to include so much detail and proof as to why the successor of peter is the bishop of rome.
