Madlena Bilalov 212377339 Essay Outline  Essay Topic: Equality of Sexes: A perspective from Orthodox Judaism  Thesis:   In Orthodox Judaism, women do not share equal status as men in the society  when taking into consideration what leadership roles women obtain, how women  participate in any legal decisions, and women’s contribution to ritual and liturgy.  Introduction  From the historical facts, it is clear to state that women have different roles and  levels when compared to men  Judaism originated from a patriarchal society which dictates the role of women   The main argument is that women do not need to be on the same level of equality  as men The Orthodox role of women in Judaism (rituals and worships)   Women have less of a role than men o Facts to support:  There is a gender hierarchies placed in the synagogues because  men pray and women are obligated to sit separately from men or at  glare at men from the upstairs gallery  Women are not to be included in the temple, court or army spheres  Judaism is a monotheistic religion and women and men have equal opportunities  for salvation and spirituality o Facts to support:  As stated in the Talmud, women are not allowed to learn the  Gemora, become a rabbi, and study the Torah. They must take care  of their children and the house   Women are exempt from the 14 positive commandments • Only 3 positive comma
