Robert jensen is considered a disgrace at his university in texas. Without empathy the ability to move outside our own experience, there is no hope of changing the world: being able to see beyond yourself. Selected sympathy: we are moved to help some situations (earthquakes, tsunamis) but not others (wars, famines, working conditions, poverty) Systemized brutality: we are benefiting from the pain we are inflicting. Jensen: moral failure to know, to feel, and to act . Na consumption can by maintained only by maintaining the levels of poverty. We are helping keep the poor of the world poor. At least 80% of humanity lives on less than a day. 22000 children die each day due to poverty. 2. 2 billion children in the world 1 billion in poverty. Our current life-styles prevent us from enjoying life fully: how happy can we really be in a shopping mall. Tears are ok but not enough they should move us to action.
