However is still somewhat efficient because 6-c turns into two 3-c molecules into pyruvate. Hexokinase enzyme that recognizes / will phosphorylate a 6-c molecule: needs to break down glucose because enzyme that makes pyruvate does not recognize the 6-c molecule. Uses atp to make atp: phase 1 uses atp, phase 2 produces atp. Allow efficiency because it doesn(cid:495)t use glucose before you use it: regulating: eg. Has different enzymes that are near equilibrium (like pcr) and some that are regulated (need an on/off switch) Muscle contraction can generate signals that activate these enzymes. If you want something that is self-regulating you need to keep feeding it something. Therefore: to activate this enzyme, during muscle contraction adp (because atp is being used) goes up therefore activating it.
