Another central concept of sdt is perceived competence people perceive themselves to be competent when they feel capable of attaining important health outcomes such as meeting a pa goal. Similar to self-efficacy concept (strongest predictor in pa) perceived competence to achieve health outcomes are enhanced through autonomous motivation. Intrinsic motivation was found to be an important correlate to self-efficacy . Sdt perspective people are most successful at adopting a health behaviour initiating pa when they have high. Levels of autonomous motivation and feel competent that they can achieve this outcome. Health professions must be autonomously supportive they can be trained to use this counselling approach. Receiving bpac set the agenda, ask, advise and agree, ipac assess, assist and arrange, relative to only bpac would result in higher perceived competence and high pa adoption. This is the sdt process model of health behaviour change.
